Text box values to array to database...

Hey everyone,

I have six rows of text boxes for users to enter into. The fields are named like

ROW1: invqty, invpart, invdesc, invlist, invprice, parttotal
ROW2: invqty02, invpart02, invdesc02, invlist02, invprice02, parttotal02
ROW3: ...
ROW4: ...

How can I add these to variables so $invoiceqty = invqty, invqty2, invqty3, etc. $invoicepart = invpart, invpart02, invpart03, etc.

and then loop through them, inserting them into a table until all data is INSERTED (so if only 2 rows of text fields are filled out, only 2 new rows will be added to the table?)

If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!

Something like this:

ROW1: invqty[], invpart[], invdesc[], invlist[], invprice[], parttotal[]
ROW2: invqty[], invpart[], invdesc[], invlist[], invprice[], parttotal[]
ROW3: ...
ROW4: ...

After submit

$invoiceqty = implode(',',$_POST['invqty']);

I did rename the field names to ...[] at one time, but (as always) this makes something else more difficult. I'm using javascript to automatically multiply the invqty to the invprice and insert it into a readonly field - parttotal. I'm using an onFocus for parttotal that calls this function:

     A = document.Form0.invqty.value
     B = document.Form0.invprice.value

     A = Number(A)
     B = Number(B)

     C = (A * B)
   document.Form0.partttl.value = C
}
function calculate2() {

     D = document.Form0.invqty2.value
     E = document.Form0.invprice2.value

     D = Number(D)
     E = Number(E)

     F = (D * E)
   document.Form0.partttl2.value = F
}

How can I rename the fields to invqty[], etc. and still allow the javascript to multiply the values?

Okay I think I can call the PHP arrays in the JS function by

A = array.document.Form0.invqty[].value
B = array.document.Form0.invprice[].value

C=(A * 😎
array.document.Form0.parttl[].value = C

But how do I specify which row(invqty, invqty2, etc.) that the calculate functions will effect? Is there a way to have 1 js function( just calculate() ) that multiplies each row and inserts it into the parttl field in that respective row?

Still can't get the Javascript function to recognize the field data. When using defined field names, the calculate() functions work perfectly. But when the textbox's are named invqty[], invpart[], etc. none of the calculations are performed.

I know using an array is perfect for this section of my form, but it also has to multiply invqty and invprice with the value added to partttl, on all six rows if the fields are completed. Is there another way to do this? I know it has to be client-side so the form is updated instantly, but I also want it to submit the completed rows into the database, as easily as possible 🙂 .

Use the indexed elements array to get / change the values in the form, instead of the ids.

function calculate() { 

     A = document.Form0.elements[0].value 
     B = document.Form0.elements[1].value 

     A = Number(A) 
     B = Number(B) 

     C = (A * B) 
   document.Form0.elements[5].value = C 
} 
function calculate2() { 

     D = document.Form0.elements[6].value 
     E = document.Form0.elements[7].value 

     D = Number(D) 
     E = Number(E) 

     F = (D * E) 
   document.Form0.elements[11].value = F 
}

Bogu, the name format is fine for submitting the info into the db. But i can't get the javascript functions to multiply the values when they are '[]' I will try matt72's suggestion and see if that works.

Thanks for everyone's help. I just took the easy way out, and used IF statements. It submits the first row automatically, then checks the second for entries, submits that one, and so on. It doesn't look the best, but it does what I need it to!
