Making a Stand Alone PHP Program

Hi!

I have developed a web-based program using PHP which quizzes students on their knowledge of human bones. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I could put this program on a disc so that I could distribute it to my students? Do I have to include the PHP program itself on the disc?

PHP is an interpeted language, so the client machine would need to have PHP installed.

Hi!

If one writes a PHP web-based program, how does one put the PHP program on a disc along with the written program? Is this possible?

No, it's not possible. You need to put it on a website or intranet and let students access it that way.

Thanks for your help. I assume that I would have to somehow arrange to provide prospective users with a password in order for them to gain access to the program after they pay a small fee. If you have any information on how to do this, I would appreciate it. Thanks again, Michael

Search google for "php user authentication". There are 100s of tutorials and prewritten scripts available.

You could also rewrite the software to use javascript instead of php. Then you could give it out on discs.

Let's not forget about PHP-GTK!

I'm sure it wouldn't be overly tough to rewrite your quiz using PHP-GTK. It would definitely be a challenge if you've never played with it before but it would be worth the time if it's something you could reuse with different students.

Thanks for the suggestion to use PHP-GTK. However, my head was spinning just looking at gtk.php.net. I'm not ready for gtk right now, but it's always good to know about options. Thanks again. Michael
