my db has events and each event is connected to a date and times with a table called event_time_assoc
when a user edits an event with a form, some existing association records might exist in event_time_assoc. if they change the dates, i can either
1) wipe the existing assoc records and create all new ones
or
2) go through the trouble to find out which dates (if any) have changed, updates them, and then determine which dates might be new and which have been deleted and create or delete those.
From a performance standpoint, is it worth it to update the records or should I just wipe them and create new ones? Seems to me approach 2 is a Pain In The Ass (PITA). On the other hand, if it helps keep my database faster, I am willing to do it.
