[RESOLVED] date formatting

In my MySql database the format of date is yyyy-mm-dd.

Here where i live we write dates in the format dd-mm-yyyy.

I can retreive and flip the date in a select statement, but can't figure out how to insert and update dates into the table.

In the forms users write it in the format dd-mm-yyyy, and when put into db it has to be flipped to yyyy-mm-dd.

How do I do that???
Have googled without any success and looked in here too, but nothing seemed to have put me in the right direction.

Probably the most dependable thing to do is provide separate select lists for month, day, and year, then concatenate them in the necessary format. This helps avoid ambiguity as to whether 10-12-2006 is the 10th day of December or the 12th day of October. But if you want to use a single text input, you could try something like this:

$inputTime = strtotime($_POST['date']);
if($inputTime != FALSE)
{
  $dbTime = date('Y-m-d', $inputTime); // enter this value into database
}
else
{
  // handle error for invalid date input here
}
