Is there a ready industry-strong ready project in PHP available?

Dear all,

I am a newbe PHP developer. I wonder if there exists a code-by-example thing, ie a ready project written in PHP that would help new developers to delve headfirst into development by industry standards based on a proven example. I know that appFuse offers such an opportunity for Java coders.

What I am really looking for is a ready industry-standard application based on Smarty and MySQL with clear comments inside. A photo gallery or a small presentation/news site, maybe. Something that will show how to build a good application from scratch and incorporate all the good practices.

Is there one you know of?

I dont think there is such a thing as industry standards in php. If it works and does the job then its I presume its industry standard. There are many many ways of doing things in php from what I have learnt. Someone will show you one way of doing things then another person will show you another way.

If you have never used php before then I suggest you start at the basics like creating your very first php page and uploading this to a server.

I know there are editors around but I use dreamweaver and just insert the php code as I go along. I have more control over the webpages this way.

I have never ever seen any clear step by step examples like you asked for, but hey maybe someone could point you in the right direction.
