Log in and Redirect

Hi there!

I need help with some code. What I have is a very small form, as a matter of fact, it only has one field called "groupname". When a user comes to my page, they type in the name of their group in this form which basically looks like this:

Group Name: [FORM BOX HERE]
GO BUTTON

Depending on what they enter, it will direct them to "their" page. It's pretty much like a drop down box, except that I don't want everyone who clicks on the drop down arrow to see all the different groups there. I want them all to be private.

So, what will happen, is a group will come to me and I'll create a page for them on my site. Then I'll tell them to access the site, just go to the home page and enter their group name into the form, click GO and it will redirect them to their page.

Does this make sense at all? I can't figure out how to do it for the life of me. Everyone keeps telling me to put redirect code in the header, but it's not just ONE page in particular I want to redirect to, there could be many different options. Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction here? I would really appreciate the help before I pull all my hair out! THANK YOU!

ok, i don't understand how that works. If i post something in a header, then I can only chose one option to redirect to, correct? Where do I put the different pages that a different groupname would link to?

Page 1 has the form and asks for Groupname. Then it posts to Page 2
Page 2 has m@tt's redirect command.

When the user types in their group name (or better yet, selects it from a drop down menu), that value gets posted to Page 2. If my group name is "XYZ", then that's the value that's going to be posted to Page 2 in the variable $_POST['groupname']

So on Page 2, it will insert the value of the groupname variable into the header command and bring you to that page. Therefore, in my example, you must have a file called XYZ.php

could this be better:

header("Location: group.php?groupname=" . $_POST['groupname']);

then in group.php:

// ***CONNECT TO MySQL/SELECT DB***
mysql_connect...

$query = 'SELECT * FROM table WHERE groupname = \'' . $_GET['groupname'] . '\'';

// ***RUN QUERY AND PROCESS RESULTS***
