On my php pages that display database items, is there a way that when I delete an item in the database that the picture that goes with it is also deleted from the dir?

I guess that I am stuck. I used GoLive to setup all of my pages for adding, editing, deleting records to my DB. I currently use ftp to upload my photos to the dir.
