server wide header append for mail() function?

Is there a way of forcing the mail() function to always append the script's path to a header or something? I've got a client on a machine doing some borderline mailings using PHP and want to track down exactly what's going on, but I can't locate all of the scripts.

There are far too many scripts on the machine calling mail() to find by inspection or grep.

Seems like the options would be to modify the PHP source for the mail function to do some sort of logging, then recompile/install it; or possibly simpler (for me anyway) would be to write a wrapper script for the sendmail function (I guess I'm assuming you're on a UNIX/Linux system). The wrapper would do some logging and then call the (renamed) sendmail program.

I'm using qmail, but same thought. Now what is qmail going to see as far as information pertaining to the script path? Won't it just see it as the web user injecting a mail message? At that point I think the script path may already be lost.

I thought about modifying mail() in the source and recompiling, but I want to avoid that if it's possible.
