I have a web site that runs the cgi version of php (needed for pcntl functions) along with the mod_php installed by Cpanel. Its been running on a VPS server for six months without problem. The webhost does not include support for the cli installation as part of their server management, which is otherwise generally fairly good. However, one of the techs did compile and install this for me anyway and it has worked like a charm.
But a problem arises now that my testing is done and I am moving to a dedicated server. The new server is with the same host company and the same techs, but there now seems to be a reluctance to handle the cli. Its still up in the air, but I may end up having to do the install myself, which will be an entirely new thing for me. Any advice on how to proceed?
Since the first compile works fine I would like to be able to just copy it over to the the new server. Can that be done, or am I going to have to compile all over again?
And if I have to do the whole thing over from scratch can someone point me to a good tutorial for how to go about it? My understanding of server operations is still very rudimentary, but I am up for giving it a try.
Or would I be better off just finding a new managed host who will agree ahead of time to install what I need? Any suggestions? Thanks.
