Hey guys.
Please please help me!! 🙂
My website is 3 months old, 10,000 members already!! and it keeps crashing my dedicated server now and pages time out, etc. It's so slow but the weird thing is it was fine on the shared account and then my ISP sent me an email and said we were using up too many resources and they shut me down.
I called them up to upgrade and after migrating to our own dedicated server I notice it's slow, the statistics show 50%+ memory and cpu usage.
If you're interested in helping me with the site I'd love some help, but I can't afford to pay but one or two hundred per month for your help. 🙁
If you go to myspace.com, and perform a browse, by default you will see no more than 3000 results.
If you click on my browse on my myspace clone script, you will see the total number of members appear (about 10,000).
After the migration from shared account to dedicated, the site has become slower. Hostgator has said they've viewed it and optimized it, etc. When 35 - 45+ people are online, the site is excrutiatingly slow. Pages will time out, and if they don't, I may sit there for minutes at a time, but only on certain pages.
Is there a way for me to limit the number of search results in the browse so it doesn't show 10,000 members? I believe the query uses LIMIT 0,30. Does this have anything to do with what I'm trying to accomplish? I want to limit the list to 2,000 members.
**Also people have told me that the site isn't slow, including my programmer. I think it is because when I go to my member section, the slowest part of the site where I experience the most time outs, I have over 9,000 friends. Others who don't experience this don't hae 9,000 friends. Plus the file for the member section performs 9 queries that I found. This can slow it down too right? My programmer says queries don't slow it down, only writing but I disagree.
I really really appreciate any help. Right now I want the site to keep growing but I don't know if I should move to another stronger server, a 2nd server, or optimize script.
Thanks in advance!!
Chris
