Upload via PHP and convert to flash

I'm looking to develop a site where fans can upload videos from sporting events, tailgates, etc to a site.

When uploaded I'd like for the files to be automatically converted to flash, much like YouTube! does.

I'm interested in any current software that does this, any help would be greatly appreciated...

I dont think u need to convert video to flash, but u need a flash player ...

So, if I want people to come to my site, upload a .wmv and then I want it to play in flash I don't have to convert it to flash?

You still need to convert your wmv to flash video.

I used ffmpeg (opensource & beta) for this job. works great for 3gp, mov, mpg and avi. WMV could be a problem because there are different versions. You can convert WMV 8, but not WMV 9.

I forgot to tell, ffmpeg is a program you need to run server side. I used it under Linux and i don't know if there is a Windows version. Ffmpeg is used from the commandline. There is no interface for php to use.

What host do you use with ffmpeg?

Thats the problem. Most hosts don't have ffmpeg.

We have dedicated hosting over here so I'm able to install software. You can always ask your host to install ffmpeg, but I doubt they will agree.

I've searched for (opensource) alternatives, but I haven't found any.
