Unable to load dynamic library 'c:\windows\php_gd2.dll'.....

I know this has been asked before, but I can't find an answer to this exact problem anywhere.

I'm running PHP 4.4.4 on IIS 5.1, Windows XP. I need to use GD, so I've downloaded php_gd2.dll and put copies of it in c:\windows\, c:\windows\system32\, c:\windows\system\, c:\php and C:\ itself, just to be on the safe side (I know it only needs to be in one place, I just don't know where that is yet). In php.ini, the extension_dir is set to "C:\windows" - I've tried "./" and "c:/windows" and everything else I can think of - and extension=php_gd2.dll is uncommented.

But accessing any page gives me the error, usually somewhere at the bottom:

PHP Warning: Unknown(): Unable to load dynamic library 'c:\windows\php_gd2.dll' - The specified module could not be found. in Unknown on line 0[/INDENT]

I know the php.ini I'm editing is the right one, because commenting out extension=php_gd2.dll gets rid of this message. Needless to say, none of the gd image functions work. Can anyone help me out?

And of course you got the correct GD version for the PHP version, right?

I think so... although it's php 4.4.4 and GD 5.1.2.2. Not sure actually. Where can I get the right version, if this is the wrong one?

I went through this same problem a few years ago :-)

Download the php4 zip package, not the installer from: http://www.php.net/downloads.php

Just extract the ones you need. Don't overwrite your existing installation though.

funny how the answer's simple when you know it... I replaced the php_gd2.dll I had with one taken from the windows zip package, and... it works now. Thanks!
