install issues - brand new server

I'm a designer/programmer not a sysadmin for the web server - and I would love to have some input on the best way to approach our server set up. We keep running into road blocks - not much forward motion in 3 days.

currently we have
-->php 4 running fine
-->MySQL is on but just sitting there - not really hooked in to anything because we don't know how to hook in to it! :queasy:
-->Zend Core (we have installed but getting 404 when trying to go to the admin panel)

current php.ini file: http://www.alumni.uga.edu/beta/inf.php

wanting to add:
-->PHP5
-->phpMyAdmin

i'm wondering - should we:

a. try to sort out Zend first then move on?
b. get PHP5 & phpMyAdmin installed and come back to Zend?
-if yes, install which first?

please please, anyone out there who can help? many good karma points for you

Hey Danielle

The following link is a good tutorial for setting up WAMP specs on your comp, it is a little outdated and thus the software used is a bit behind but the method is pretty sound, gets the webserver up, mysql up, php up and interacting with all also instruct on adding phpmyadmin and mysqadmin.

Like i said it is pretty old link and not necessairly all correct few changes here and there but it should help you significantly with the install:

Oh sometimes that link does not load if so go to www.webthang.co.uk and click on the tutorials and then on the right you will see the tutorial for setting up WAMP

thanks for the quick response!

seems like that link is for putting a local copy on your own computer? we are working on an i5/os (as400).

we had to install from the binary files. if we had something more specific for that server or perhaps the linux install directions are closer?
