[RESOLVED] To omit records from a recordset

Hi,

Does anyone know how to configure a table so that you keep all your data in the database but perhaps omit certain records from showing on the website? Like whether the row in the table is an active or in-active row.

You do that in the query. SELECT fname, lname FROM persons WHERE city = 'Chicago' will only output people from Chicago.

Thanks for replying, I do know what you have just said, it's just what I am trying to do is have a page of houses for an estate agent and that page displays all of the detatched properties, so supposing one of the houses gets sold and therefore is not required on the page, instead of going into that page to change the query in the WHERE clause would it not be posssible to make that particular row in the table inactive so it just doesn't appears in the page. Does that make sense?

That is not how RDBMS works. Look at the select statement to get more information. Just add a active column in teh database and change that, then you might choose what to show in the queries.

I can sort of see what you mean, so if I had a column called active in my table and rows could then either be marked as active or inactive and I had a row of my table marked as inactive in my database, I could then write the query to not show that particular piece of info? Could you give me an example of what it might say?

Hi,

I have only just worked it out, thanks. I made another column in my table and named it active and so when you input a new record it asks do you want this record to be Y or N and therefore will show in the web page accordingly.

Select* from table Where table.active = 'y'

You know some of the stuff is really easy and I just want to say thanks to you guys for helping us newbies to see it.
