This is killing me. Any help appreciated.

I have a form with various choices (which operation do you want to undergo?). Each operation has a recuperation period associated to it. e.g. 2 days, 5 days, 37 days etc. - the last choice being for an elephant trunk transfer 🙂.

My reasoning - I capture the operations array with an array ($operations[]). On the next page, within the array loop, I access the db to find out what the recuperation days ($recup_days[]) for each operation slected are. Probably not smart, but trying to capture the recup_days in an array on the form brought me nowhere.

The argument is that if someone selects more than one operation (elephant trunk operation plus an an ear tuck procedure), I want to know the recuperation days that are associated with each operation. Depending on the operation(s) chosen, I need to be left with the highest number of recuperation days required, i.e, elephant trunk transfer = 120 days, ear tuck = 2 days therefore if you choose these 2 procedures, then your total days recuperating is 120 days.

Perhaps not rocket science 2 u, but where and how is the best way to do this?

Anyway here's one way of doing it

$operations = explode(",",$operationType);
$daysToRecuparate = array( 2=> 'ear',120 =>  'trunk', 16 => 'foot');
foreach ($operations as $key => $bodyPart){
	$key = array_search($bodyPart,$daysToRecuparate); 
		$total[] = $key;

}
$total = max($total);
print "It will take you ".$total." days to recover";
?>

This assumes that you use a mutli select box or you use another method to add all the values from the form into the comma seperated array $operationType.

It should also be fairly easy to read the results from a mysql query into the $daysToRecuparate array.

Thanks for the help - $recoverytimes[]=$myrow[2]; from a mysql query did the trick. I never added the [] to make it an array, hence my confusion :eek:
