[RESOLVED] edit Text File online

I have a text file which needs to be edited online and written back.
RecNo File has this format
0 7 10.5 Sat Regular hours

1 10 13.5 Sat Sat Regular hours

2 13 16.5 Sat Sat Regular hours

3 16 19.5 Sat Regular hours

User enters the record no to be edited from a textbox
Need to find that record and edit it online...when editing is done ..write it back to the same file..
I prefer the record to be edited, displayed in each textbox while they are edited...but this is not a necessity.

I could edit the whole file by getting it, into the text area..but that wouldnt work as it will not let us know which record got edited...

Any help / Suggestions appreciated

Why aren't you using a database for this?

couldnt use a data base ...its the project's constraint......

I am able to achieve ... what I wanted ........with perhaps a long piece of code......

I know you marked this resolved, but there is an option to use database options for a file (sort of like using ms access db files) in nix environment. It's called sqllite. No server ust a program that is easily installed (in most cases via a package manager.) Each database is basically a file (or group of files.) PHP has built in functions (you have to install the extension, but usually easy to do with nix package mangers.)

Again, the flat file method is a poor and troublesome model. If you currently have the text files already, I suggest importing them into a database (like sqllite perhaps.)
