[RESOLVED] Auto-split a variable

I have two variables I am passing to a page. They look like this:

mysite.com?vid=123456789&kid=234-6655-2-457656

Please note that the vid number will always be the same number of characters, but the kid will vary, but will always have the same number of dashes seperating each number.

How can I split vid into 3 subvariables if the first 4 characters are to be vid1, the next 2 to be vid2 and the last 3 to be vid3?

i.e. vid1=1234, vid2=56, vid3=789

Same question but with kid and instead of it being the number of characters, the delimiter is the dash.
