Hiding and revealing a sort of text box and live chat mm

Q1: Ok, first question, about the hidden text box thing
Im going to use a dropdown box, but I need it so you click a + symbol, and it hides the text box, is it possible without a subsequential page load, or do I have too?

Q2:
Live chat, Im not sure were to start? do I make another MySQL db for this? or what, im not sure, can someone give me advice

q1: that question is a javascript/css question and would be better posted either in the clientside forum here:

or you can google around for javascript and the display property.

q2: live chat doesn't need a database. it needs sockets and from what i've seen, your browser is not the best way to handle that sort of thing. There might be some way to do it using AJAX (Asynchronous Javascrtipt And XML - try googling) but I think most approaches I've seen are either standalone applications like AIM or YIM or they use Java (not Javascript) or Flash.
