Help with mail() function

I've set up a mail function in a php script, however I'm stuck on assigning the headers. My lack of PHP knowledge is the issue.

I'm trying to assign the "from" into the header section. From is held in a variable, $from.

I currently have: $headers .= 'From: ' . $from . "\r\n";
but that'snot working. What should it be. Also, I want to CC a copy of the e-mail to the "from" person, how would I go about doing that?
