Can I do a include or a require_once from a external server?

For example require_one('http://mysite.com/page.php')

I am creating a program and don't really want the clients to be able to see my database login information on their server.

You can (assuming the necessary URL fopen wrappers are enabled on your host, which they normally are), but most likely you will receive the output of that file after it's processed by the target host's webserver and PHP, not the actual source code to be compiled in with your code.

It is just some variables I dont want people to have access to such as Database login information.

It might work for you if you give it a ".txt" suffix (instead of ".php").

Well I am using dreamweaver and it creates a Connections folder and in that folder it has the variables for the database connections.

Would a .txt still give me the right variables?

PHP does not care what the file extension is of any file it includes, just what the actual content of that file is. The suggestion for using a .txt extension is that the webserver on the target host will care, and will probably serve it up as a plain text file (which is what we want) rather than running it through its own PHP parser/processor.

So I can use a fopen on the .txt of a external file to grab the contents and the variables?

If you want to include it, just use the full URI:

require_once "http://www.yoursite.com/includefile.txt";
