I have tried everything after I formatted my laptop.
MySQL error 1067
The port isn't used I tried another port nothing helped.
It works fine from the console when I use mysqld-nt.exe --console, it says it is ready for connections. It worked fine with Norton on the last windows installation
Even microsoft forums are having problems atm

That is my configuration in my.ini in C:\Windows

Once I get that error fixed I put it in apache folder.
I even rebooted my laptop, and nothing helped

    So you installed MySQL to the Apache2 folder? Kind of odd.

    EDIT: Debunked my own theory 🙁

    But anyway, have you checked whether or not the path is completely correct? I.e. there isn't a sub-folder that needs to be specified?

      it is "Apache2" not Apache 2
      There is no spaces I just checked
      I installed MySQL into the apache folder.
      It worked fine last windows instalation
      My.ini will go into the apache folder after I get the error fixed
      My.ini is in C:\Windows now
      It doesn't work now

        Is the path in the windows Environment Variables?

        Have you tried putting the INI file where it should be, and not in the Windows directory?

          How do I set mysql path in enviromental tables, I know how to get into there but I dunno the code for it and what should be the value called

            In the Environment Variables, you should see one called "PATH". Edit that, and see if you have "C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\MySQL\bin" in there. If you don't, just add it. When adding, make sure you separate the previous entry and the new one with a semi-colon: ";".

                Not sure what to tell you. It probably should have worked. Have you tried uninstalling and then re-installing?

                Have you used the MySQL Configurator?

                    I am working on the same prob with xp-pro-64. I have apache2 and php5 working fine.
                    Working on getting MySQL 5 working. My design puter is xp-pro SP2 and everything works great.
                    I think I will uninstall and reinstall in the root directory and get rid of the path ....Program files(x86)...
                    I may even try a manual install since that worked the best in the design puter.

                        if you install mysql under windows system, sometime it will suddenly unable to start the service,
                        i face this issue quite a few times already, finally i found a solution for it,

                        1st step check the error, under your installation path for mysql, check the data/mysql.err, it the error showing you something like this ..

                        050213 20:43:37 InnoDB: Starting shutdown…
050213 20:43:40 InnoDB: Shutdown completed; log sequence number 0 1051715
050213 20:43:40 [Note] C:\Web\mysql\bin\mysqld-nt: Shutdown complete

                        this should be the log file having problem!

                        2nd step remove the ib_logfile0 or ib_logfile1 in the same folder

                        3rd step restart the mysql…

                        da da da… mysql service is running again

                        p/s: i'd got the same problem and i tried the tips ahead, its works for me..try and error would give you experience...hope this will help... XD

                          I have finally solved the problem by uninstalling mysql
                          then what I did was install it but K:\Apache\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.0
                          It has to be that long or else it won't work.
                          base dir is where you installed your mysql server
                          data dir is where your data files are
                          make sure you change base directory and data direcoty folder where you installed it and innodb dir as well
