[RESOLVED] Dates

I have been reading many articles on the date subject but am really unsure of what is the best way to get the data I require.

Im looking to get the number of years months weeks and days since a time from my db in the Y-m-d H:i:s format and would like to calculate that time until today.

$membersince = date("Y-m-d H:i:s", strtotime($joindate));

above is the field I have converted to the correct format for showing your joindate
however I would like to show how long you have been a member.

any advice would be great I know alot of scripts available but I have been unable to find one that works every time for me offten showing no days with a -negative result in the date diff.

    $start = strtotime($start);
    $end = strtotime($end);
    $diff = array('years' => 0, 'months' => 0, 'weeks' => 0, 'days' => 0);
    foreach ($diff as $period => $length) {
        while (($start = strtotime('+1 ' . $period, $start)) <= $end) {
            $diff[$period]++;
        }
        $start = strtotime('-1 ' . $period, $start);
    }
    return $diff;
}

$difference = years_months_weeks_days($start_date, date('Y-m-d'));
print_r($difference);
