How to check for *part* of an entry

Hi.

I'm interested in creating a website where the user puts in what they have available in the fridge/pantry, then the site searches for all recipes in the mySQL database that can be made with what the user has available.

I kinda understand how this would work, but here's what I don't understand how to do: if the user puts in 1/3 oz of peanut butter, how could I look for all of the recipes where one of the ingredients is 1/3 oz of peanut butter?

I think you would have to separate the quantity from the ingredient. Consider: with 1 oz of peanut butter, the user can use a recipe that only needs 1/3 oz of peanut butter. This suggests a "less than or equal to" comparison when searching the database, which would only make sense (in this context) on numbers.

If the user puts in 1/3 oz of peanut butter, they better be cooking for a mouse 😃

Do you really need quantities with the ingredients? I would guess that the ingredient alone (without a quantity) would be enough. Let them look over the recipe and decide.
