Time validation in PHP

good day everyone,

I have an array named $newtimeIN

where:
$newtiime = Array ( [0] => 09:00:00 ) and so on and so forth...

Question:

1.) What PHP code can I use to validate the time in the $newtime array?
note: The correct format should be in 00:00:00 or 00:00

One possibility:

foreach($newtime as $key => $val)
{
  if(!preg_match('/^\d\d(:[0-5]\d){1,2}$/', $val))
  {
    // invalid time format
    // if you want to delete it, at this point do:
    unset($newtime[$key]);
  }
}
