Downloading files question

hey guys,

I am a newbie to PHP and on the site I am working on I would like to have users when they log in be presented with word documents they have to download based on database information.

I was just wondering what is the best way to get this download information on the screen. Would it be a good idea to keep the url in the database then show this as a link?
