[RESOLVED] Joins and how to write the query

I have asked this before but the explanation and ability to manipulate multiple tables still eludes my tiny mind.

I have two tables

table1 = airports_data field1 = ICAO
table2 = allflights Field 2 = departure

I would like to get a list of all departure items that do not excist in my airports_data table and list these so that I may then enter the data needed for these.

as I say I have asked before but have been unable to actually get this working for me, I'm not sure how to write the query or witch items I call when I wish to display the data.

any help on this would be great I have read about joins but it still illudes me.

Sounds like you want a sub-query:

SELECT departure [, [i]any other fields you need[/i] ] FROM allflights 
WHERE departure NOT IN (SELECT DISTINCT ICAO FROM airports_data)
