How to make a space site?

Hi,
i was wondering how you can make a space site like
myspace? Where people can communicate with eachother. 🙂
I am getting a bit board with the forum style that
i've been using for too long. :glare:

by spending allot of time. although, if you want to make myspace you can cut corners and make it buggy.

but since your asking how to make a site like that i'm assuming you don't know how to program. so ... start by learning a langauge.

So wich language should i learn, do you think
to make a space site? I would like to learn
a language because then i can modify
the whole site to my likings 🙂

For the server-side work, I'd say PHP with a MySQL backend. Search this board for keywords such as "PHP tutorial" or "PHP guide" and you'll be inundated with suggesteions, I'm sure.

As for the client-side design/display of the data, I'd say HTML with a strong emphasis on CSS (Web 2.0!) is basically required. If you want to get fancy, you can implement some AJAX (Facebook uses a lot of AJAX).

When developing sites that store user profiles (or any kind of user-associated data), you obviously have to store it somewhere. The most common solution is to use a databse engine such as MySQL. If you'll notice, there's an entire forum dedicated to database-related problems right here at PHPBuilder since PHP and MySQL/databases often go hand-in-hand.

uploading possiblities for the users like youtube?

Don't worry about the videos at the start. You have ALLOT to do before you can do that.

first you need to understand PHP... then there are some things that i guess you will want as standard before you add video's and stuff.

Rolebased User login/logout
dynamic profiles - so people can change content
posting comments
uploading multiple pictures
user management for you to moderate with admin account

This doesnt even include the design of the website or the design of the database (very important)

so, start small and try something out in PHP... build it up a piece at a time, do the most simple and basic things first.

Unless you are quite familiar with lots of programming I would recommend you get comfortable with using PHP before you start to add AJAX (It can be added later, resoably easily)

Jep, i made some forums and portals but not really
modified them. I also made site's with html
and i use flash a lot.
The only thing i really need now is PHP, MYsql
and im very glad that i found this site 🙂
I didn't except to learn scripts (today i was planning
to download made spacesites scripts 😃 )
So i am not very good with programming but
my time will come 🙂
