[RESOLVED] Mailsend - PHP - Formatting Text from Forms

I am using a simple Mailsend command from a form:

echo "<TEXTAREA COLS=50 ROWS=20 WRAP=\"hard\" NAME=\"textname\">".$textname."</TEXTAREA>";

Obviously this would be for a large amount of text with line breaks. It is saved into MYSQL as such.

When PHP uses the mailsend command, the message line:

$message = "<html><body><P>".$textname."";

Sends an email message with NO line breaks in the message. How do I convert $textname so that it shows the line breaks?

Uhhh wordwrap()

string wordwrap ( string str [, int width [, string break [, bool cut]]] )

Example:

$text = "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.";
$newtext = wordwrap($text,20,"<br />\n");
echo $newtext;
?>

or with your case try

$newMessage =wordwrap($textname, 70,"<br />\n");

I tried that, it's not doing what I want.

Here's an example:

Entered Text from the form (the variable $textname) :

[INDENT]Monthly Deposits Commission

$0 - $10,000 15%
$10,001 - $20,000 20%
$20,001 - $40,000 25%
$40,001 + 35%[/INDENT]

So at each point the person hit ENTER, a line break is to appear.

Using Sendmail, the $textname variarble truncates and removes the line breaks. So it looks like:

[INDENT]Monthly Deposits Commission $0 - $10,000 15% $10,001 - $20,000 20% $20,001 - $40,000 25% $40,001 +35%
[/INDENT]
I want to make sure the line breaks appear in the sendmail message.

Well PHP can not do that an enter key is controlled by the browser what takes place on the client side (the users input like an enter or return or tab or all the F1-F12 keys). PHP works on the server side and only can act on the information sent from the client so you will need a means to create something that lets PHP know that there is a special non printable character (like enter or space) that need something special done with it. Perhaps if you went to the client side technologies in forums for them you might find someone that could help. By the way there is no WRAP attribut for the textarea, it is just disregarded (at least with the code you posted for the textarea). Plus you might not be able to use sendmail as written without modification.
