[RESOLVED] Make the pound sign (£) appear in the output?

Hi,

I'm making an application that includes emailing in plain text as part of its output, however, I can't work out how to make PHP produce the pound sign (£) (UK currency, not hash), as when i type "£" into a string, it appears as "Â£" (capital A with a circumflex followed by the pound sign). Why is this?

No, that appears as "£"

The email is sent as plain text, so html special characters like that aren't parsed

Be consistent about your encodings; send appropriate headers in the email. Everything should work.

If it comes out wrong it's because the encoding of your editor, the email, or something else is inconsistent. Fix that and it will work.

Use the same charset in the e-mail as in the editor. If you're editing using UTF-8, then make sure your e-mail's header specifies this:

$header = 'Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8';
