Hey,

As some of you might know, I'm completely new to this and don't know what goes where and where goes what. Anyways, I would like to learn how to make a PHP login region for my squadron's website. We're a virtual squadron flying in the skies of Aces High II, yet I would like to make a "member's only" section so squadron members can upload their latest kill logs, submit queries, etc...

Anyways, the only tutorials I have found on the web require MySQL, I have attempted to install MySQL but PHP couldn't connect to the databse even when I gave it the proper connection information. So I'm looking for a way around the "MySQL" function. I'm pretty sure its possible, I just don't know what to search for to find any suitable tutorials. That's why I'm wondering if you can help me.

I know it's difficult to learn, because I saw a tutorial on it once. Please can anyone help me?

What version of PHP do you use? With PHP5 you may be able to use SQLite.

I'm using PHP 5.2.0

Ok, check with [man]phpinfo/man. You probably have SQLite installed, preferably version 3. See if [man]PDO[/man] is installed too.

Results came back negative for any version of SQLite or PDO.

hmm... looks like you have to reinstall mysql, or follow instructions to enable SQLite with PDO.

Which do you suggest is easier, since I'm a nuthead beginner with PHP.

SQLite is an embedded database engine, so setting it up may be easier since you dont have to install anything else.

What operating system do you use? Generally, on Windows, all you need to do is to enable the extension. The instructions can be found in the PHP Manual.

I managed to find this in the manual:

And I managed to find a disabled extension in the "php.ini" file named: php_sqlite.dll

Instead of enabling that, try enabling PDO with these lines in php.ini:

extension=php_pdo.dll
extension=php_pdo_sqlite.dll

The DLLs themselves must be in the extension directory listed in php.ini

After enabling the extensions php.info() returns this:

pdo_sqlite
PDO Driver for SQLite 3.x enabled

Well, you should learn the PDO API from the PHP Manual, at least enough to begin writing a test script or two to get the hang of it. After that, you can start working on your script.

That helped me more than google, all I was getting is the basics, no real descriptions of how things operated, what needed to take place, and what all needed to be generated to make a working login system.
