Hello All,

A warning in advance, i'm really standing at the bottom of learning PHP.
I've decided to give PHP a try, i wish to create a system on a dedicated server that checks a specific folder for files that contain the date in the filename ("20070117") and does this every day before a specific time.
If it finds out the folder has been updated it sends a mail to a given e-mailaddress... perhaps only sends an e-mail when an update has NOT been received.

Allright then, i have installed PHP 5.2.0
When i open the exe i get a CMD-like interface.... what next!?

All help would be more then greatly appreciated!!

do you know what PHP is? its a server scripting interpreter so you write a webpage with php and it will send the relavent output to the browser. you dont need to open PHP to use PHP. what you will need however is a webserver to serve the PHP page. i suggest apache as its free and good. now you have your PHP installed and your webserver up and running, you need to configure apache to handle the php pages with PHP. google this i suppose. now, learn PHP, write your PHP script and open it in your webserver to test it. considering that all goes well, use that script on the pages that you need the script to work on.

Mr. Was, please understand that PHP is a programming language. You are correct that it is usually used to preprocess web pages but it can be used for many other applications. Mr. 001's project is well suited for PHP. I encourage you, Mr. Was, to learn about unix tools such as cron, PHP commands such as exec, and grammar such as punctuation.
