Set time limit does not work, help!

Dear list!

My php script takes longer then 30 seconds to run. I have tried to set time limit but it does not work. The server at my domain is set to safemode = on.

Is there anything I can do to solve this problem? My script needs maybe 2 minutes of run time. Safemode can not be changed at my domain so it must be solved in another way. Any suggestions?

It is hard to know what the script does and how it could be improved without having any code to look at. So please post the code for the script. But one guess would be that you do lots of database connections, and that is normally not needed.
