Date syntax

Hi guys.

I would really appreciate it if you could tell me how to achieve this date syntax.

Dates are stored in our MySQL database as yyyy-mm-dd (for an example on this piece let's say 2006-01-29

Currently, we have these shown as 29-01-2006 through the aid of:

" .substr($myrow['dateadded'],8,2)."-".substr($myrow['dateadded'],5,2)."-".substr($myrow['dateadded'],0,4)." ".substr($myrow['dateadded'],11,8)."

However...we'd like it displayed as 29Jan06 -- any ideas please?

For dd-mm-yyyy (e.g. 29-01-2006):
PHP:

date('d-m-Y', strtotime($myrow['dateadded']))

MySQL:

SELECT FORMAT('%d%m%Y', dateadded) AS date_formatted

For ddmmmyy (e.g. 29Jan06):
PHP:

date('dMy', strtotime($myrow['dateadded']))

MySQL:

SELECT FORMAT('%d%b%y', dateadded) AS date_formatted

Would it require both the PHP and SQL syntax, or is that "either" one?

I.e. just using hte php one on its own, should that work?

Either one will re-format the date.

If you use the date in its original format somewhere else in your PHP code, obviously you wouldn't want to covert it at the DB and then again in the PHP code; it's up to you.
