Copy img from URL to Dir???

Hi guys,

Is this possible?

I usally use a way to copy images from the users pc, and that works fine.

But how would you copy an image from a site address to your website?

Say the user enters: http://www.sitead .com/img.jpg

how could you copy that to your server?

I tried "copy" but my host doesnt allow it 🙁

Any help would be great.

hmm, copy() is the only way I know how to do it. In fact I had done it before. I ripped all the images out a website in an app just to see if i could!

I had a similar problem with my host banning the mail() function.

With a bit of hunting around I found somebody had made a function to replicate its actions and that worked well. so maybe head to Google and have a search for something like that.

If your host bans fopen_url, or indeed mail(), dump them and get one which works.

Having hosts unilaterally banning stuff is impossible to work with. I realise there ARE alternatives, but these are useful functions which are there for a reason.

copy() should work. Or something else which uses fopen to read from the URL (stream_copy_to_stream ?)

Thanks for the help guys.

I use dreamhost, and they usally are pritty good at letting people edit their htaccess files.

If its somthing that can be done in there, thats cool, but if it means rebuilding the php version, i wouldnt really want to do that.

I'll have a look for a function, then see about regetting copy() back in if i cannot find anything.
