RSS syndication (remote server)

Hi all,

I'm trying to use zebrafeeds.php to handle some RSS feeds.

I have it installed one 1 server, and would like to include it on another...

I have (on the remote page)

<?php include ('http://www.myurl.com/dir/newsfeeds/zebrafeeds.php'); ?>

I set the display site (site that embeds the zebrafeeds.php) to the remote server and it shows blank...

Is that a proper include statement?

Can anyone recommend a relativley easy RSS script to use in my situation?
I have tried a bunch and am running out of time.

Hi,

Nope not correct ;-)

You want to use the INTERNAL reference to the zebrafeed file.

so..

include("../newsfeeds/zebrafeeds.php");

Now the server will look on the web for the file, which will result in a processed script (As if you were trying to open the page zebrafeeds from the internet). If you use internal paths, the server will realize you need the code.

I cannot use an internal path, since the zebrafeeds script is on another domain.

Then you cannot run it from your website.

Where is it hosted then? If they have it setup properly, you could possible embed it, or use curl to run it. But easiest would be to get the script and put it on your site. After all, that is what it was made for.

The server the page i want to put the RSS on is not unix.
It's tough installing things that require writable permissions.
I have a really hard time dealing with the guy who manages their server.

I would rather figure something out than wait around for him to implement my requests.

It would be great to be able to call the zebrafeeds.php file (on my server) and have it show up on their page, which would be hosted on their server. Hopefully I can still do this.

No Problem.

External servers are always a pain ;-) I am changing providers with one of the .orgs I maintain for a research group, since they refuse to give php write-permission on the server (A security issue, they claim. I told them they have no clue what they are doing on their servers ;-))

You could write your own xml parser!?

Hm.. Just a thought..

If you can run it on your own server.. Couldn't you pull the data from your own website, using fopen()? Since you manage that page, you could even generate a completen\ly invalide, but very handy, page without any <ht><head><body> etcetc tags, just the output as you would want it on your site?

Just a though. I am sure there is a number of people here who can advice on the level of problems you would run into..

All i'm really trying to do is embed a php file (from another server) so it shows up in the page.

It just happens to be the zebrafeeds rss script.

Now I'm trying to beat this iframe into submission.
Gawd i hate iframes....

yes, but it won't install without permissions.

The server isn't set up to allow potential security risks. It's for a medical company.

There is a way to use java to embed php...
I'm going to try that.

Can you output the information from the remote server to a hidden page on that server, and then use file_get_contents() to read that information and output it on the other server/web site??
