Date format? Whats Best

I am playing with my renewal system and looking at the best ways of dealing with dates.

What is the recomended or is it preference.

I have an issue with using timestamp dates as they are not human readable, and MySQL dates do not seem to easily have maths performed on them.

I know there is code i can write and functions which would make this instantly not be a problem, however i am looking at about 4000 enteries to view each time and that figure should grow by about 10000 in the next few months.

Any suggestions or recomendations are greatfully recieved.

I use YYYY-MM-DD for dates and timestamps for anything more precise.

hm.. My mysql timestamps show as something like yyyy mm dd hh MM ss

MySQL has a whole bunch of functions for performing operations on date/time quantities. Depends on what sort of maths you're after, I guess. There are plenty of obvious date/time operations that aren't easily performed on Unix timestamps (adding one month, for example, is not that trivial - not without breaking it into year/month.../second components first).
