[RESOLVED] auto_increment reset?

I have already searched the forum on this issue, but what i found was not quite what i needed.

I have a database with over 300,000 rows. the auto_increment is somewhere around 2,000,000. is there anyway that i can reset the auto_increment without losing all the rows?

i am using phpMyAdmin with Mysql 4. something i think

WHY would you want to do that? It completely ruins the integrety of your database.

one of the values in my row is called the ID which is the auto_increment value. since millions of rows are deleted every day, i just want to know if there is anyway to reset the ID from the beginning

OK, beware: You are loosing your integrety by doing this. You should only do this if the auto-increment is not related to any other table-colums in the database (In which case an auto-increment colum seems a bit useless).

DROP the field you are auto_incrementing.
ALTER the table to ADD the field again with the same attributes.
