Save and display xml file with special characters

Hi.
I've to save and display a xml file.
I get the entries by a form.
To managing special characters.In my case (è,à,ò,ì)
To saving the entries:

utf8_encode($title)

To Displaying the entries:

htmlentities($title,ENT_QUOTES,'UTF-8')

Is it the right way ?
