Interstitial ad for social networking site

I am the owner of a social networking site and I like to do coding on my own sometimes to save $$$.

I am trying to figure out how to put interstitial ads on the site. If you are not familiar with interstitials, I am trying to make it so that when a user logs into their profile, they will be directed to a new page with an ad on it before they get to their profile admin. It will of course have an option to skip the ad.

Can anyone help me with this?

Modify the post-login redirect and send the user to the 'ad' page instead. Save the original redirect using a session variable (or even send it in a query string) and have the 'skip' link point to it.

I actually put together a nice interstitial code with cookies that display 1 time per 24 hours for a user. You can adjust the time of course to your liking.

Basically research cookies and thats all you need to do. Sessions or cookies will work.
