[RESOLVED] php not returning error messages?

Hi guys n gals,

Strange problem. I've been having trouble with the hosting company I'm with over the past few days.. Mainly image upload problems with GD, nothing works, even the fantastico scripts. So i e-mailed them asking if they'd changed any of the config, to which they said "We've not touched the server setup for months".

So i thought it may of been a scripting problem.

So I decided to write a php script that should throw back error messages to me, but instead I just get a blank page, with no error messages at all.. Not even an unexpected T_ECHO.

Has this happened to anyone before? Does this just require a server restart, or is it a bigger problem?

Do a phpinfo() and look at the value for "display_errors" as well as "error_reporting" -- what are they set to?

Hi,

I've just looked into it and display errors is off. It never used to be though, because all of my scripts are buggy at least 99% of the time, and i've had a LOT of error messages in the time i've been scripting. All uploaded to the same webhost too.

Would they of had to of changed the php config file, or could something of happened and turned this off, because they're claiming they havent touched the setup for months.

Also, error_reporting is set it -9.

Well... PHP wouldn't have changed itself, so yeah someone updated the config (unless there's an .htaccess file in your web folder that sets these values?).

I don't even know what value -9 is in terms of the E_ constants.

depends on how newby ur hosting company is with server security, try changing the ini config urself by using :

if(ini_get('display_errors') != true){
             ini_set('display_errors','1');
         }

or whatever the code is along them lines :-/

Resolved the problem by changing webhosts! 🙂
