Setting Page-Specific Events

Is there a way that I can have PHP look up what page is currently loaded so that I can have it do certain things depending on which page is being viewed?

For instance, I've got a PHP include on several pages which selects a random picture to display. BUT, it would be nice to figure out if the user is viewing index.html, and if they are, to display a certain picture.

I know how to display the picture, I just don't know how to get PHP to recognize which page is loaded. Hope this makes sense.

It'll need a bit of clarification on "which page is being viewed". PHP doesn't know anything about users or what they're viewing; it constructs and sends out pages in response to requests. What happens after that is none of its concern. Are you wanting to know how PHP can identify which page it is is being requested so that it can construct the right response (with the right image URL, etc.)?

Is there a way that PHP can find out which URL or page that the viewer is browsing? I've got a PHP include file on about 6 different pages. If they are on index.html, I want PHP to know that so that I can have it do something different than on the other pages.

Do a phpinfo() and scroll all the way down to the "PHP Variables" section. Some variables that might be of interest: $SERVER['SCRIPT_NAME'], $SERVER['PHP_SELF'], etc. For more information about the $_SERVER superglobal, visit this man page: [man]variables.predefined[/man].
