cgi mode

I know this statement includes a .txt and just puts it in the page.

<?php include 'folder/table.txt'; ?>

My boss said that the server runs php in CGI mode.

So can i use that include statement in CGI mode. I cant find clear documentation on what CGI mode is.

Basically, the difference is that (assuming your server is Apache) the Apache module version of php runs as a process of Apache, whereas the cgi version entails Apache handing off php to a separate process. According to the links above, php-cgi is not the preferred way to go, however, since you're stuck with it. I couldn't find anywhere that showed differences in using functions (other than for security purposes) so I recommend just trying it.

i was just wondering. I only really would use php to incude banners and tables that are common to every page. <?php include 'folder/table.txt'; ?>

Is there another way to do it... like with client side stuff.

Pretty much every web server (well IIS and Apache at least) has a way to include content without using a PHP, ASP, etc.

Yes, this is more of an Apache question.

As far as php coding goes there should be very few differences.

In regards to your question on includes, one basic way is Server Side Includes. Your Apache server probably already has them running, just google "server side includes mod_include".
