Looking for DeviantArt-esque Portal

I am in the process of building a site, but doing it from the ground up is a little bit daunting and frankly I don't have the time so I am looking for a product that already has the fuctonallity that I can tweak to my specs. The basic premise is to have users be able to create an account, upload multiple pictures of the one thing they want to display, and build a portfolio of their things. Other users would be able to post comments, rate the pics on a scale of 1-5, and sort all entries from all people based on various criteria. I like the design of DeviantArt and it has the fuctionallity that I am looking for when it comes to one user being able to create a portfolio of their stuff, but it does not allow multiple pictures of the same thing. (Why would you when dealing with 2D art? 😃 )

Is anyone familiar with a product that would allow me to build such a site? I have seen some portals on HotScripts.com, but most look like social sites in the vain of MySpace, and pictures are dealt with in a gallery instead of central to the content.

Of course these are only three. There are other gallery scripts out there. The only thing that I can see that makes deviant art unique is the user-base. It has the users to support it, and so through that support it was able to flourish. Yes, they are using custom home-grown software, but it's easily mimicked with any gallery software and a front-end. Heck, even forum software could be used 😉 But the above three galleries should get you started. I think the best is probably Coppermine.

Although.... after looking at Gallery, that may be what you're looking for.

Thanks for the reply. I think Copermine might work with some tweaking. It has more of that "forum" look than what I am going for, but it may provide a good basis to start with. Maybe with some major CSS work and a little coding I can get it out of my brain and onto the web. Thanks!

If any one has any experience with other similar products your comments are absolutely welcome.

the aforementioned have some have very good features, but I don't think they allow multiple pictures per file, at least I've never seen a portfolio website apparently using an automated gallery software which allowed multiple pictures. every one of them I've seen were using plain HTML.

if they don't support it, you might still be able to tweak the software in order to allow multiple pictures, but's it's going to be a lot tricky. (I tell you because I'm developing a system of this kind which does... fortunately I've got the multiple files part nailed down already)

drupal, came second in open source CMS awards and can integrate with most image modules offered on the web as well having its own image module. You can easily theme it to how you want as well and got a nice community going for it.

Thanks for the help again. I have Coppermine running and though it doesn't do everything that I want, it is a good start.
