Script renamed with a .jpg extension doesn't work

I'm running the Automatic Labs image rotation script http://automaticlabs.com/products/rotator/ on my site. I use it to rotate forum avatars. I configured the script and renamed it to rotate.php.jpg and pointed my forum avatar to that file and it works fine.

A friend set the exact same script up on his server and tried it on the same forum and it gives a broken image icon. When you try to open up the file in the browser, it displays the script instead of the image. Without the .jpg extension, it works correctly.

It seems like this is an issue with a setting on his server, but I'm not sure what to look for. Does anybody have any ideas?

Hm...
YOU must have your server to parse ALL files as PhP, which is a bit of server-load intense..

He will have it set to only .php files.

In the apache config, look for AddHandler

Better would be to keep it all in .php
You could always have your server rewrite rotate.jpg to rotate.php, if you really do not want them to see php. (Why is that, I wonder)

Alternatively, if you can place the jpg in an isolate directory, you can use an .htaccess file to tell Apache (are you using the Apache httpd?) to parse the .jpg file as a PHP file. The .htaccess file would look like:

AddType application/x-httpd-php .jpg

I strongly caution you when doing this, however; if you don't isolate the JPG, all jpg files in that directory will be parsed through the PHP parser and cause performance hits.
