Simple comments box, trouble with incomplete tags-

I added a little comments box to my page, and left the option to add links available- but I notice after screwing around that if a link tag is left open, it pretty much breaks the entire page. Good one.

Anyway, I was curious to know if there was a cough easy way to fix or just cut broken tags from the message body so that my page doesn't fall apart when some fool fails to add </a>

Heck, first time I ever touched PHP. It's more interesting a problem than I had first thought.

I've also just had a smaller problem- anytime the character ' (single quote/apostrophe) is used /// is inserted in front of it. Geez.

Well... regular expression comes to mind, though I'm no guru of it... perhaps someone will come along and help me out here? Otherwise, I might stumble around for a while and get back to you if I find a solution.

Are you sure it's not a backslash (), not a forward slash? We'd need to see your code, but it sounds like magic_quotes_gpc is enabled and you're using [man]addslashes/man or [man]mysql_real_escape_string/man. The solution would be to disable magic_quotes_gpc (since it's less than helpful - search around for info on this, I know MarkR has talked about it recently).
