I think it would be a nice way to enhance the search feature if we could "tag" or apply keywords to our threads once we mark them resolved.

Maybe it (the feature) edits and inserts the keywords into the last post of the resolved thread ...

Thoughts?

I actually see a need for more accurate results when I search. It is often that the word searched for is in posts further down and are of no relevance to the thread as a whole, making that thread more or less useless to solve the problem in hand. However I don't think that people will add keywords to their own threads, when something is solved they just don't care that much. And I don't see that mods should do it either, they have enough to do anyway.

There is another way to solve most of this problem. If it was possible to search for words in the first post in the thread only, then hopefully the results would be more accurate.

without tags the accuracy of the boards search is determined by the settings in CP for the level at which the search digs... whether its full text, etc...

tags are kind of a taboo thing... i dont think they help per-se... just ads to the overall clutter and overhead

That's assuming that the
first post is coherently written and contains all the relevant keywords that
someone might be searching for. Often, though, those would be part of the
solution.

True. But when searching for something people (or at least I) usually don't use the correct keywords either since they don't know what they are. In other words, they will probably use more or less the same words that the first poster used, and then the solution contain the correct solution and keywords.

Just to avoid misinterpretation about what I am saying: I am not talking about tags or keywords to be separate from the post. I mean to do a full-text search in the post.

By generating the tags for the user to click ... via checkbox maybe.

Since the option would only be in place once the thread is marked resolved, the tagger could scan the thread and pick up tags associated with keywords in ALL of the posts in the thread.

Then when the user is selecting the tags, even if he didn't know "ternary" before, he may now due to the thread and the tagger suggesting it.

Unfortunatley it is those titles that gets the best and fastest help. I tried it once with a real title and got no responce. A few days later I posted a simular question but had a topic like Help needed, and I got a responce at once.

then a mod or someone needs to go back and fix those titles... bad behavior shouldn't be rewarded

Of course it could be, and hopefully it was that as well. But I think that more people look in posts with those titles since they have to view the post in order to know if they can help or not.

I won't answer them either. Not with the attitude that we should help them or that their thread should be more urgent than others. But I have to admit that I answer if someone post with the topic "Help" or something simular.
