[RESOLVED] can't get WAMP5 1.7.0 to work on XP PRO SP2

hey,
history:
IIS was installed - but was removed
asp.net & microsoft web developer 2005 were installed - but were removed

i installed wamp5 server 1.7.0 for the fifth time now (:glare🙂 and it doesn't work.
the server in coming up nicely, no error in any logs and everything seems fine.
when i try to go to localhost it never stops loading it. i says: waiting for server or something.
when the server is off, when i go to localhost, it immidiately says that it can't find the page.

i have NOD32 antivirus. i tried to fully disable it - still same problem.
the winxp pro SP2 firewall is completely disabled.

i don't know what else to do, i tried everything (including installing xampp - also doesn't work).

that's it. if you need more information just ask for it.

please help me - it's driving me crazy.

Are you using http://localhost/someName.php to access your pages or possiby http://127.0.0.1/someName.php?

both act the exact same way.
does it suppose to matter?

also, i cannot telnet 127.0.0.1.. it says connecting to 127.0.0.1...
i waited 5 minutes or so like that, it's just stuck. so i guess i can't telnet it.

any suggestion?

use the MSI installer from apache.org for windows... you really cant expect much from bundled installers... save yourself the hassle and do it right the first time

as for WWW serving on windows, is it your only option? serving on linux will be more efficient and secure... and FREE

look into Ubuntu Server... it has the option to install a LAMP server with DNS and does it in about 15 mins all said and done

as for your windows issue...
can you ping 127.0.0.1?
IS the server running on port 80? (check your httpd.conf)
have u tried making your own index.php page in the docroot with

<?php phpinfo(); ?>

in it? maybe their default page runs a bad script that hangs the server up

ok, i tried to install apache (2.2) by itself (after uninstalling wamp ofcourse) and it does the same problem. i guess the 2.2 version doesn't work on my computer for some reason.
so i dowloaded apache 2.0 by itself and installed it and it worked.
but it still doesn't solve my problem. i wanna use the latest version of apache. what could i do?

i read it. it didn't solve my problem.
i'll tell you guys another thing. now my 2.0 also stopped working!! i reinstalled it 100 times already and i don't know what went wrong!! now it does exactly what the 2.2 did. it gives no response.
OMG i don't know what to do now... i just reformated completely.. i don't want to do it again!!

please help me guys! :bemused:

solved it with this little command:
Win32DisableAcceptEx
i don't know exactly what it does, but it works perfectly.

Problems Installing or Running Apache 2

EnableMMAP Off
Win32DisableAcceptEx
