Hit counter loses track of hits

I have a graphical hit counter script that I use on a number of websites.

It stores a number in a text file, and increments it as hits accrue. It also produces an apache-compatible log file for sites below our main site. 🙂

The problem is that the site counter (that goes on the page...not the logger) loses track of where it is at some point. For example, it will be around 5,000 hits, then suddenly reset to a lower number. :mad:

The counter is attached. Can someone please take a look and see if something isn't right? 😕

Any questions about what I tried to do, please let me know and I will answer them.

To use plain-text numbers, specify plaintext as the style, otherwise you need to create 0-9 graphics in a folder under the styles folder and use that folder name as the style.
