[RESOLVED] Stuck trying to find Chars

Hi Guys!

In my script I am trying to find multiple illegal characters within a string, i have tried strpos() with no joy, and I can't seem to get my head around preg_match().

I only want to allow a-Z and 0-9, and disallow all other characters, if characters are found then $validationResult is set to false, meaning it adds an error message to $validationReason.

Any ideas guys?

if(preg_match('/[^a-zA-Z0-9]/', $text))
{
  $validationResult = FALSE;
  $validationReason .= "You can't follow instructions. ";
}

if(preg_match('/[^a-z0-9]/i', $string)) {
    // illegal character was found.
}

Or, if it's available to you, you could simply use the [man]ctype_alnum/man function.
