Undefined Index (multiple)

I receive two warnings everytime I load the page and I can't seem to figure out why?

PHP Notice: Undefined index: user in I:\Apache\htdocs\AHS\blocks.php on line 6
PHP Notice: Undefined index: usrlogin in I:\Apache\htdocs\AHS\blocks.php on line 7

Lines 6 and 7 are:

$user = $_SESSION['user'];
$userlogin = $_SESSION['usrlogin'];

Respectively. They have values passed from another page where I set them. Thanks for the help.

The error tells otherwise. They are not set. Do a little check before setting those variables:

$user = isset($_SESSION['user']) ? $_SESSION['user'] : '';
$userlogin = isset($_SESSION['userlogin']) ? $_SESSION['userlogin'] : '';

I did that and now the script I use those variables in doesn't work. But works fine using them the way I had them.

As both cahva and the error message have pointed out, those indeces do not exist in the $_SESSION array. This could be because:

They weren't set properly.
They were set, but you used a header() redirect that redirected the user before PHP could finish writing and closing the sesion files. To resolve this issue, you'd want to use [man]session_write_close/man after you've finished working with the session data and before you issue the header() redirect.
You failed to use [man]session_start/man on the current page, so that the session data file is never reopened.
You did not fail to use session_start(), but the session ID was (for one reason or another) not propogated to the current script causing a new session to be created (without, obviously, the data from the previous one).

The way my site is setup is I have three main files. Header, middle pages, Blocks. On the middle pages I include the header and the blocks. The blocks are located on the right and are where I use the $SESSION['user'] and $SESSION['userlogin']. In header.php I have session_start(); then in one of the middle pages (users.php) I have functions that set the session variables just like: $SESSION['userlogin'] = 1. Then in blocks.php I'll use $SESSION['userlogin'] in an if statement or something similar. So I'm guessing I'll have to read up on sessions a little more because it looks like I'm missing something.
